My Approach

Economic Development

Support local businesses who have made a commitment to Milton. Attract new businesses. Create employment opportunities for residents so they can live and work in Milton. Collaborate with the Milton High School Innovation Center to create real-world career pathways for students through partnerships with local businesses. Complete construction of the new downtown core to create a walkable downtown with mixed-use buildings for residential and commercial use. Make Milton a place people travel to (not through) for work, dining, shopping, vacations, and recreation.

Housing

Encourage construction of more housing at all price points for a range of living needs — singles, families, multi-generational, and seniors. Make it easier to build Auxiliary Dwelling Units (ADUs) to create independent living options for seniors and young adults to stay close to family. Construct more senior living spaces for seniors of all ages and abilities. Remove barriers from the zoning and development regulations to encourage responsible development. Maximize incentives offered by new state laws — the CHIP Act, the HOME Act, and Act 181 — to encourage the construction of more homes.

Transportation

Identify more transportation options for people without vehicles. Explore public-private partnerships to install charging stations throughout town for those who drive electric vehicles. Develop a long-term plan to maintain and modernize roads and culverts to keep roads safe. Continue to partner with VTrans to complete the needed safety improvements at the hourglass intersection.

Public Safety

Provide the necessary funding to the public safety departments — fire, rescue, police, and emergency management — that protect lives, property, and community wellbeing. Explore creating special resources to support and respond to vulnerable populations.

Recreation

Expand the use of grants, donations, and sponsorships to support recreational programs, amenities, and events. Build a multi-generational recreation center that will provide year-round activities for residents through a public-private partnership. Maintain and improve recreational amenities — playgrounds, playing fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, pickleball courts, walking trails, mountain bike trails, and other green spaces. Continue to make hiking trails located in Milton's natural areas — Town Forest, Lamoille River Walk, and Eagle Mountain — more accessible to people of all abilities.

Annual Town Budget

Identify ways to increase revenue to avoid raising property taxes. When building an annual budget, make thoughtful, intentional, and sculpted cuts if reductions are needed. Attract and retain the best and the brightest Town staff by paying a living wage, benefits, and appropriate cost-of-living increases. Treat Town staff with dignity and respect. Seek community input when setting spending priorities. Be fiscally responsible. Be a strong steward of taxpayer dollars. Identify creative funding sources through grants, federal and state funding programs, and public-private partnerships to make long-term investments in the future of Milton. Think strategically and move incrementally to grow the Grand List, reduce financial pressure on property owners, and strengthen Milton's economic base for the future. Ensure that everyone receives the Town services they need and deserve.
